SKINFULL: James Bond…Just for fun :)

Today I’ve a new picture to share; nothing serious…just a picture made for fun.

SKYFALL / SKINFULL
I’m a huge James Bond fan so waiting for the new SKYFALL movie to come out after some 4 years of waiting has been torture.

The internet has been awash with all manner of posters and YouTube has had trailers online for some weeks now…all of which I seem to have had on constant replay

Anyway to get into the spirit of things, have a bit of fun and to just give myself a personal project I thought I’d have a play at making my own version of one of the SKYFALL posters…

I’ll make a point of doing this kind of thing i.e. giving myself personal projects, on a regular ongoing basis. It’s something I’ve always done because if all I was working on was client images then although I thoroughly enjoy using Photoshop, what they’re asking for might not necessarily be pushing me…does that make sense?

Giving myself personal projects to work on means I can challenge myself. You see when I’m using Photoshop I get a real kick out of trying to work things out or come up with ways that would give me a similar result; not exactly the same but similar and just by going through that process it’s amazing the things you can learn by just experimenting. I mean if it doesn’t look good then we can delete and try again right? … and we’ve the luxury of time on our side as this isn’t for a client…it’s for ourselves.

And here’s some of  the bits n’ pieces that I used to come up with my own version plus the original studio shot I took of Photographer (should do more modelling) Glenn Richardson.

The barrel rifling (I think that’s what it’s called) was put together with a few shapes & selections:

Now as it happens even though this started off as a personal (not for any particular reason other than a bit of fun) project, when I posted a message on Twitter about doing a Bond Themed Photo Shoot, a magazine (Practical Photoshop) picked up on it.

So, I’m now in the process of writing and recording a tutorial showing how all the bits n’ pieces fit together and I believe that should be out in December’s issue.

And finally…
I guess if there was any kind of message to come from this post it would be to just say…Have fun! Give yourselves a personal project to work on. Get ideas/inspiration from DVD covers, magazines and movies. Source some props (nice and cheap off  ebay or in Charity Shops) find someone to shoot, set a date and work towards it…kind of like giving yourself an assignment. It’s a heck of a lot of fun, will add images into your portfolio you may never have normally ended up with and by experimenting with the retouching you’ll learn so much more about how things work inside Photoshop.
