Last week I was out in Los Angeles presenting at Adobe MAX; the World’s largest conference for the Creative Industry with this year hosting over 14,000 attendees!

This was my 2nd time presenting at Adobe MAX with last year being held in Las Vegas when I was awarded MAX Master and just like last year, the 2018 conference literally blew me away! How Adobe manage to put together such a huge conference that seems to have something happening every second of the day in every corner of the convention centre is staggering, but wow do they do it!

Adobe MAX

Adobe MAX is where creatives from all over the world come together for a week of learning, inspiration, motivation, networking and so on… Hundreds of  Sessions and Labs by a side range of presenters of which I am truly honoured to be one as are many of the great friends I’ve made in my time involved in this creative world.

Adobe MAX Sessions

Keynote speakers this year were Movie Director, Actor and Writer Ron Howard who’s talk was both funny and inspiring. Such a great story teller! Also another who made a profound impression on me was Legendary Photographer Albert Watson. I’ve always been aware of him but never really looked at his work but that’s definitely changed from this point onwards. Very humble, honest and again, inspiring. In fact whilst sat in the audience I dived onto Amazon to order one of his books. Now…I wonder if we can get him on the Podcast?!?!?

Ron Howard

HUGE thank you to everyone who registered and came along to the sessions I presented on selections and cut outs called ‘Making Photoshop Selections Work for You where I shared practical tips and techniques for getting the very best selections and cut outs using tools we have and tools you might not think of using. Feedback has been great so for that I’m really grateful…thanks again!

A highlight for sure was getting to spend quality time with close friends. Adobe MAX despite having so much going on never feels rushed or manic busy which I guess is down to how well organised it is, so you are able to get quality time meeting folks. Spending a whole week with our mate Alan Hess was the best. You’ll be hard pushed to find a more genuine, loyal person and friend as Alan.

Adobe MAX 2018

Also hanging out with friends Joel Grimes, Jason Levine, Mark Heaps, Jesus Ramirez, Colin Smith, Bert Monroy, Lisa Carney, Sef McCullough, Matt Kloskowski, Dave Cross, Theresa Jackson, Katrin Eismann, Tony Harmer was as always a treat. Some of the very best right there!

The great folks from BenQ (my monitors of choice) were there too. Always good to catch up with them and chat through future developments and put any questions to them that I get from time to time. I’ll be recording some material for BenQ over the coming weeks so I’ll be sure to let you know about that as soon as it’s released.

Was so good to see my new book, The Photoshop Tool Box available in the book store as well; Adobe MAX being it’s official launch and chuffed to bits to see that it sold out in the bookstore; even more so when it’s your Best Mate, Dave Clayton that’s designed the cover…as he has with my two other books, Photograph Like a Thief and The Photoshop Workbook. He’s damn good that Clayton Fella 🙂

The Photoshop Toolbox

The Expo floor itself was ENORMOUS! Packed with demos, products and presentations.

As well as the new updates across the Adobe Apps (Photoshop, Premiere Pro CC etc…) Adobe also have what they call ‘Sneaks’ where they bring Adobe Engineers away from their desks to demonstrate software and utilities they’re working on for possible future release. It’s always mind blowing to see this stuff not just because of how on earth they make it but how they even think of it. Yep…definitely some exciting enhancements coming in the not too distant future.

Adobe MAX

Anyway I could quite literally go on and on about how incredible Adobe MAX was but I’ll finish by saying a BIG thank you to the folks at Adobe for inviting me to be a presenter and an extra big thank you to Kathy Scibetta for the support.

Hopefully see you at MAX 2019
