It’s just 2 more sleeps to go until Christmas and without wanting to sound like I’m wishing time away, the New Year will then be fast approaching.
Now although we set goals throughout the year, traditionally, as we all know, this is the time when folks set new goals that they want to achieve in the following twelve months. So, rather than me writing a post about setting goals and how important they are (which they most definitely are) I wanted to let you know two of my own?
Ok so why do I want to let you know a couple of my own goals? Well, the other day I was watching an episode of the Graham Norton Show when one of the guests was Jim Carrey, and apart from talking about the new Dumb and Dumber Movie (which I REALLY want to see) he mentioned about goals. One thing in particular that he mentioned was how he set himself a goal of achieving a certain pay check by a certain date by actually writing a cheque and keeping it in his wallet. Anyway, check out the video below and jump forward to around 1:20…
I loved hearing that Jim Carrey had done this and it kind of reminded me of a saying I remember hearing a while back…Hung by the Tongue.
What does this mean? Well I understand it as telling others what your goals are. Don’t just keep them to yourself…tell others and that way you make a commitment. You tell someone else and they’re going to be watching and waiting to see if you achieve them…does that make sense?
Now does it matter if you actually do achieve that goal? Heck no, but one thing is for sure and that is that you’ll have moved a lot further forward than had you not set the goal in the first place!
Of course I have many goals I’m setting in place for 2015 but one in particular is a photography goal of photographing two people I admire, two heroes of mine: Noel Fitzpatrick aka The Super Vet and World Famous Chef Raymond Blanc…
So there you go…I’m now Hung by the Tongue telling you a goal that I have but what about you..what goals do you have for 2015. Whatever they are, big or small, commit to them by being Hung by the Tongue, telling others so that they hold you to account.
Let’s go for it in 2015!!!
