It’s all about the People…

Hey Folks,

WOW!!! What an amazing few days that was at the Photokina 🙂

There’s so much to write about I really could go on and on so this week I’ll post some of the highlights.

Today though I just want to quickly mention something that I’ve thought about since being in Germany and that is…what I think these kind of events are all about.

You see I love technology and gadgets (no surprises there) and there’s been more of that at Photokina than I can even begin to remember, but for me it’s not about all the gadgets…it’s about the people.

I love Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and all the other forms of social networking but when all is said and done, you cannot beat face to face interaction.

So one thing I do when I go to events, say like Photokina in Cologne, Focus in the UK and the Expo Floor at Photoshop World in the US is to look first at who is exhibiting and see who I would ideally like to look at building a business relationship with…and that’s the key word here… ‘relationship’.

I’m certainly not looking to approach companies just for freebies (as nice as they are of course) but rather what I’m looking for is how we can work together on something that is mutually beneficial.

If you’re approaching companies purely looking for something out of it for yourself I honestly think that you’ll be rumbled. Think about it, these folks go to trade fairs and expos week after week, month after month and because of that experience i reckon they can pretty much spot someone on the scrounge a mile off.

It has been an amazing experience for so many ways and without doubt one of them has been the networking opportunities and now that I’m back in the UK priority this week is to follow up on the contacts made and continue to build on the relationships.

Will something come of all the contacts made? I very much doubt it but making those contacts with the right intentions from the start will go a long way towards something positive coming from it for both sides…and if not now then possibly in the future.

Just my thoughts.

Have a great day whatever you’re up to and I’ll catch you back here tomorrow,
