Hope all is good with you.
Thanks for stopping by.
It’s early hours o’clock so I really must get my head down for a few more hours shut eye but before I do here’s something to give you an idea of what we were up to yesterday…
Ok so yesterday we were out filming the photography side of one of my Kelby Training classes.
Up and out the door early this morning we headed over to a car scrap/junk yard in Clearwater, Florida which is where I was going to be collecting the background elements for one of the pictures I’ll be working on.
With a few members of the Kelby Media Video Production Crew
Big 3 Pull and Save…A great location, perfect for what we needed, and hats off to the guys who run it for allowing us to come in and film there.
We were at the yard for I guess around 2 and a half hours…perfect timing as by then the sun really had burned through the early morning clouds in a way that we can only dream of in the UK 🙂
Shooting Me, Shooting You: With Steve aka He-Man from the Kelby Media Video Production Team
Above shot is of Steve aka He-Man from the video production team as he’s recording some video footage for the class’ promotion material.
It’s totally fascinating watching how the video guys work; such an incredibly talented group of people!
Jon: Our ‘Never been a model before’ Model for the afternoon studio shoot
Jon our model was perfect for what we were after for the class.
Having never modelled before (which is the reason Jon was asked) Jon quickly got into the swing of things and before we knew it was totally ‘in character’

So after a day of filming both on location and in the studio it was then time to head back to the hotel, freshen up and then out for what was a fabulous dinner in the company of friends Dave Cross, wife Marlene and daughter Stephanie; a great evening with plenty of laughs…as is always the case when we get to catch up.
Wasn’t sure if I’d ever explained to Dave but a few years ago he used to produce a video podcast where he’d review certain photography & photoshop related products. On one such podcast he went on to review Zack Arias‘ OneLight DVD [Link] which went on to be a massive turning point for me.
Long story short, having seen the DVD I ended up speaking with Zack many months later and both he and his wonderful wife Meghan invited me out to Atlanta, USA to spend some time with them. During my time out there at around 1.30 in the morning Zack gave me a portfolio critique and recommended I trim down how many categories I had.
You see at the time I had all manner of portfolios: Portraits, Commercial, Food, Wedding etc… thinking showing I could do more would open me to a larger market when in fact it had quite the opposite effect. Without realising it I was touting myself as a Jack of all Trades but Master of none.
Anyway having trimmed down my portfolio to just one category (Portraits) I ended up landing a large commercial shoot with Air New Zealand; a contract that the year previous I’d missed out on because they “Didn’t know what I was”
Zack & Meghan have since become great friends and yeah you bet, I’ve thanked Zack on more than one occasion for the advice!
Anyway after dinner it was then back to the hotel to work through the editing/retouching for today’s class with Spotify blasting out some classic 80’s Hair Swinging tracks, but how Joe Dolce singing Shaddap You Face got into that playlist though I’ll never know…convinced I must have been hacked 🙂
Right, that’s all from me for today as I’ll be heading out soon, so whatever you’re up to have a great day and I’ll catch you back here tomorrow,
