Following on from an earlier post where I mentioned about having been at the RAF Club in Mayfair, London, as promised here’s a look at my On-Location Set Up for when I’m taking portraits.
Before taking the group photograph of 19 Veterans, I’d been set up in the Library to capture a few individual portraits. Having that much space was quite luxury compared to the very limited space I can find myself in when photographing in peoples homes because of room size, layout and furniture.
However, this does give you a look at what I would typically use and as you can see from the video the space needed is minimal:
If you want to check out the kit you see me using in the video, I’ve listed it below and then further down the page you can see some of the portraits taken on the day:

Alex Borrie: 1st SAS

Alex Borrie: 1st SAS

William ‘Bill’ Gladden: 6th Airborne Armoured Recce Regiment

John King: Royal Navy | HMS Janus

Stan Moore

Ernest ‘Ernie’ Davies: Royal Navy | HMS Cotton | Russian Convoys
As always if you have any questions / comments please feel free to make use of the comments section below.
Catch you next time

Stunning results all round with the minimal kit!
Thank you so much Mark
Superb as always Glyn.
Absolutely love the small footprint you bring to these shoots. Can I ask where you source the texture overlays for post. Im in the midst of painting my first canvas but often overlay with ones found on google. These dont usually have much resolution to them. Which kind of works.
Hi James.
I photographed and also created the textures I use myself. Don’t mean to do a ‘sales pitch’ but the ones I use are all in my Creativity Pack 1 in my store.
Cheers

Love the simplicity Glyn. Images are great.
I was wondering if you still use the fake medium format technique that you taught on your YouTube channel?
Cheers
Ivan
Hey Ivan
Thanks for the kind words.
As for the fake medium format technique, to be honest now that I’m shooting the close up portraits at around f/2.0 I’m getting exactly the same look and feel; some folks have even asked what medium format I’m using 🙂
So, no not a technique as such but more an aperture choice now.
Cheers
Glyn
