Hi Folks,

How’s things with you?

Hope you had a good weekend.

Busy morning today so I thought I’d kick the week off with a quick look at a new picture and some of what went into putting it together.

The Rugby Player
This picture forms one of a series that wil be used by a new Sports Massage Therapy company across their website as page backgrounds and other promotional material, and in the coming weeks/months I’ll be photographing other sportsmen/women and athletes to add to it:

Ok so here’s a look at the make-shift studio as the photos were all taken at a local sports centre.

Despite having a backdrop and stands in the car I opted to use one of the walls in the meeting room instead. I just needed to light our Rugby Player (Sam) in such a way as there was contrast between him and the wall so that cutting him out later during the retouching was that much easier.

Why Strip Boxes Lights?
In the final picture there was going to be a bright light coming from the direction of the horizon so if Sam had really been stood in the field, that would naturally have given a rim light around him:

Here’s a video I posted a few weeks back that shows what the out of camera picture of Sam looked like and then what was done to it in order to make his muscle definition stand out that much more:

And here’s all the individual pictures that were put together to make the final image:

Work in progress…

Right that’s all from me for today so whatever you’re up to have a good one and I’ll catch you back here tomorrow.

Of course if you have any questions/comments then as always, feel free to make use of the comments section below.

    Hi Glyn,

The picture looks awesome. Love the way you added the muscle definition. This type of imagery is perfect for branding a sports massage company.

    Thanks for sharing.

    Hi Glyn,

Great to see all the other images that make up the composite. You must have built up quite a library of images for this purpose(though I do know you sometimes use stock libraries as well).

When you are building up your library of backgrounds do you shoot them in RAW?

    Thanks for sharing,
