Thanks for stopping by.
To kick the week off I’ve a few things to share with you so let’s go…
Ok so maybe not the most adventurous of names but hey I couldn’t think of anything else 🙂
This is a new picture I put together this past weekend in between photo shoots and retouching. One thing I’m making a concerted effort with this year is to create pictures, outside of what I would normally do, that I can hang on the walls in my home or maybe even have made into bespoke cards for sending personalised messages.
I really do think it’s a good idea to step away, just for a short time, and try something different so like I said I’m making a point of doing this more and more when I have some (albeit it limited) free time; truth be told including setting up the photo shoot, taking the picture and retouching we’re only talking 30 minutes for this anyway.
I thought this might make a good tutorial for an episode of my Weekly Podcast / Show so keep an eye out for that this coming Wednesday.
I’ll touch on the photography side of things in the video too but just to give you an idea this was shot in natural light and behind the flowers I placed a piece of cardboard with some of the grey seamless paper I use torn off and attached to it.
Grey is fantastic for adding textures to and creating completely unique looks as in this case where I wanted to create the look of an old plastered wall with cracks in. The technique to do this is incredibly easy and quick so like I said I’ll be showing the whole retouch in this weeks episode which shouldn’t be more than 10-15 minutes from start to finish.
Incidentally in the final retouched picture of the flowers I made use (for the first time) of a plug in by Topaz Labs called Simplify.
I’m absolutely loving the painterly kind of look you can add to your images using this plug in and what’s more I’ve been experimenting with it and the quite unique looks you can create by tweaking the settings and then playing around with opacity in Photoshop. I think this is a plug in I’m going to be using more of in the future to some degree or another.
If you fancy giving it a whirl, Topaz have a 40% OFF deal running at the moment which you can access at the link below and using the discount code: febsimplify

Last Tuesday I did a webinar hosted by Wacom USA and Weston Maggio
In case you missed it here’s the recording showing the techniques I went through in a webinar that lasted around 1 hour…
ROYAL PHOTOGRAPHIC SOCIETY
Finally I just wanted to say a HUGE thanks to everyone who came along to my seminar yesterday for the Royal Photographic Society (Thames Valley)
It was great to see so many people there for the day and thanks goes to everyone from me for making me feel so very welcome; I had a blast.
Right that’s all from me for today so have a great start to the week and I’ll catch you back here real soon.
