How’s it going?
Today I’ve just got to tell you about some kit that has completely changed things for the better for when it comes to shooting tethered.
Now whether I’m shooting in the studio or on location as often as possible I’ll shoot tethered to my MacBook Pro. Sure the screen on the back of my camera is good but there’s nothing like seeing each shot come up on a 17″ screen; it’s only then that I can really see all those extra details and if I need to change something during the shoot. After all, I’ve said before that I want my time in Photoshop to be Creative as opposed to Corrective and shooting tethered into a large screen is something that goes a long way to helping out.
Now, I don’t know about you but it always seems that if I’ve hurt myself, and I’m talking knocked my thumb or banged my head I always seem to knock it again and again afterwards; it’s almost like the injury becomes magnetic and that’s kind of what it’s like when I’m shooting tethered.
You see, the minute I plug the tether cable into my camera I’m awash with clumsy genes and develop a knack of knocking it and consequently yanking it out. I’ve lost count how many times I’ve done this and then had to restart Lightroom to kick back into the tethered capture. Thankfully up until now I’ve not done any damage yanking the cable out or knocking it because repairing the damage that could potentially occur cost a pretty penny.
Well anyway, I needn’t worry about my clumsiness any longer thanks to some superb kit by a great company called TetherTools.
You see TetherTools, as the name would suggest, make equipment specifically aimed at photographers who shoot with their cameras and computers tethered, plus a whole lot of other cool kit.
Whilst out at Photoshop World in Washington earlier this year I got speaking to TetherTools and long story short having been sent a wide range of kit over to the UK and put it through its paces I’m hooked…or rather tethered 🙂
So what about the Kit?
Well here’s a set up that I use when shooting both in the studio and as often as possible on location…
Aero Table Aero, Aero Pro Pad, Secure Strap, Strapmore, Jerk Stopper Tethering Kit, TetherPro Cable
All the kit is so incredibly well made, looks great and does exactly what you want it to do which is keep your equipment secure whilst your shooting but also give you the confidence to not even give it a thought and get on with shooting; and that’s the big thing for me as I was always keeping one eye on what I was doing and the other on my kit checking it wasn’t toppling over, or my cables hadn’t becomes detached.
The Jerk Stopper…ROCKS!!!
It’s totally changed how I shoot. Just having everything secure, well organised and all out of harms reach makes such a difference leaving me to concentrate on what I’m doing. Plus now with Lightroom 4 I don’t seem to be experiencing any issues with tethering either so things just couldn’t be better 🙂
Anyway, if you shoot tethered then I’d highly recommend you check out Tether Tools range of kit, and if you don’t…well, just give it a go…it’s so easy to do and once you start seeing images instantly appear on a big screen during your shoot you’ll never look back 🙂
Folks in the UK keep an eye out as we’re looking at really pushing the TetherTools range into major outlets. Also if you’re placing an order then be sure to use the code DEWISTT8 which will give you a FREE Jerk Stopper included in your order.
Have a great day and I’ll catch you back here tomorrow,
