Today I wanted to share something I'm really excited about – a new Photography Community I've started with the help of a great friend, over on SKOOL ; it's been something I've wanted to create for ages, and seeing it come to life has been incredibly rewarding already.
What's SKOOL?
If you haven't heard of SKOOL yet, it's a platform designed specifically for communities and courses. Unlike traditional social media where content quickly disappears down your feed, SKOOL is built around meaningful discussions and connections. It's become a popular alternative for people looking to build genuine communities around shared interests, without the noise and negativity that often comes with mainstream social platforms.
Why I Started This FREE Community
Let's be honest – social media can be exhausting these days, especially for photographers. What started as amazing platforms to share our work has, for many of us, turned into spaces filled with algorithm chasing, comparison traps, and sometimes just plain negativity.
I wanted something different. A place where photographers of all levels – from those just starting out to seasoned pros – could connect in a more meaningful way. A space where we could have actual conversations about our photography, share knowledge, get inspired, and build real connections with like-minded people.
The Early Days
Even though we're just getting started, I'm blown away by what's happening in our community already. People are having genuine conversations about their work, sharing tips and techniques, discussing gear (because let's face it, we all love gear talk!), and forming connections that feel authentic and supportive.
It's refreshing to see discussions where people take the time to thoughtfully engage with each other's work, rather than just dropping a quick like and moving on.
Seeing the conversations and the interaction is exactly why I set all of this up.
The Vibe We're Creating
The description of our community says it all …
“ A welcoming space for photography lovers of all levels of experience and interest to connect, share, inspire, learn and grow together.”
That welcoming spirit is at the heart of everything we're building whether you're shooting with a smartphone, DSLR, Mirrorless or Medium format. Whether you're into landscapes, portraits, street photography, macro or whatever – there's space for you here. No judgment, just a shared love of photography and visual storytelling.
What's Coming Next
This is just the beginning! I have lots of plans for how we can grow and deepen our community experience. Think themed challenges, guest photographers, learning resources, in-person meetups, photo shoots etc …
The beauty of building something from scratch is that we can shape it together.
I'd love to hear what would make this community valuable for you.
